If you have been following our blog for awhile now you know one of my favorite flowers to grow is dahlias. There is nothing more I love than picking an entire bucket full of dahlias to arrange. They look so beautiful in a massive bunch.

My favorite dahlias that I have grown this year are Cafe Au Lait, Blizzard, KA’s Rosie Jo, KA’s Mocha Jo and KA’s Mocha Katie. This is my first year being able to get my hands on some KA dahlias breed by Santa Cruz Dahlias. Unfortunately they came with a virus. I took the chance of letting them grow. Thankfully the virus has not spread to my other plants. I will be on the search for new KA tubers next year!

Hello!

My flowers are in full bloom right now! I love making bouquets for friends and family to enjoy along with putting out for my weekly honor system flower stand. Summer bouquets are fun to make as they are so colorful. In my bouquets I add a focal flower, secondary flower and filler flowers along with greenery.

When making a summer bouquet you can make them very colorful like this example or stick to a color scheme like red/pink, all pinks, whites etc. I love making both depending on the occasion.

In this example I used sunflowers, snapdragons, one gladiolus stem, dahlias, zinnias, globe gomphrena, scabiosa and ageratum. I also used a few stems of pineapple mint as a filler. Herbs like mint, oregano and basil can make great fillers for bouquets and add a wonderful scent.

Happy Gardening!

It has been a busy start to the summer so far, full of celebration, family and planning our next big adventures! I want to do a little bit different style of post to share everything we have been up to lately.

In May we had my graduation ceremony for my masters degree. Even though I technically graduated this past December, it was fun to celebrate with my family, classmates and colleagues.

We celebrated the wedding of one of our family friends. This was the first wedding we have been to since COVID, so it was so nice to see all of our family and friends celebrating.

We spent time taking care of family members. In the process I was able to plant some beautiful planters for one of my family members.

We celebrated my grandpa’s 90th birthday. It was wonderful being able to celebrate such a milestone with the majority of family present. I hope I too can live until I am in my 90s!

Finally, we have been busy finishing up our wedding plans for later this year and are in the process of building a house which has been keeping us very busy!
