How to Maintain Sweaters Between Washes

A few years ago on the Skunk and Squirrel I posted how to wash cashmere at home. Today I am sharing some helpful tips I have learned overtime on how to maintain sweaters and other wool and cashmere items between washes.

After I hang dry my sweaters I check them for any pills. If they have pills I de-pill them with a fabric shaver or sweater stone. I like this fabric shaver for smaller jobs with clear and defined little pom pom pills. I have grown to love my Laundress sweater stone for sweaters that need a little bit more love. I was a bit scared at first to use a stone on my favorite sweaters, but it works wonders for well worn sweaters that need some freshening up as you can see in the photo above. You simply glide it across the fabric and it removes any pills.

Following the de-pilling I brush them with a cashmere brush. My mother in-law actually gifted be a cashmere brush for Christmas as she knows my love for sweaters and the Laundress products. On a side note, I am super bummed that the Laundress has recalled all of their products. I look forward to everything being restocked! Anyways, I did not know much about cashmere brushes before. This brush does a beautiful job of removing lint and smoothing the fibers of the sweater between washes. It helps to make cashmere look brand new!
