June Garden Update

My beginner vegetable garden has been growing for around a month ago. It looks great! My tomatoes, squash, sweet bell pepper, onions, leeks, herbs and lettuce are coming along well; I just planted some strawberries which hopefully also do well in my garden.

All has been going great with my gardening adventure, but I have been battling some fierce rabbits and ants. The rabbits have mainly been going for the zinnias planted on the outside of my vegetable garden. I have been trying various DIY rabbit repellants and they have been working great. For the ants I have been using diatomaceous earth. It has been also working well. I don’t want to use any chemicals around my vegetable garden, so I have been opting for natural options.

Sun Protective Clothing

As you may or may not know, May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Skin cancer is a very important topic to me, because I am a skin cancer surviver. On that note, I encourage everyone to get a skin cancer screening, especially if you are at high risk. You can determine your risk level here.

Due to my high skin cancer risk, I always wear sun protective clothing when I am out in the sun. It is amazing how many name brands make sun protective clothing today! I think when most people hear sun protective clothing they think of the classic long sleeve button-down sun shirt. That is not the case anymore friends! There are so many options that look like normal clothing. When I am out in the sun I wear a sunhat, sunglasses, long sleeve sun top, and Hint sunscreen.

Lilly Pultizer: Lilly Pulitzer is a preppy lifestyle brand known for their bright prints. I love Lilly and am so happy that they make sun protective clothing as well.

Vineyard Vines: Another preppy lifestyle brand which both Jake and I love. Vineyard vines also carries some occasional sun protective clothing.

Coolibar: Coolibar makes exclusively sun protective clothing. They have everything from tops to pants to swim to hats. If they don’t make a sun protective item, no one probably does!

Columbia: Columbia makes a wide range of sun protective products in their PFG line for both men and women, including the classic button down sun shirt everyone thinks of when they hear sun protective clothing.

Saint James: Saint James is a French brand known for their classic striped tops. They make some tops with Anti-UV fabric. When I found these I was so excited because I love striped tops. I wear them weekly!

Cabana Life: Cabana Life makes exclusively fashionable sun protective clothing for women from dresses to swim wear and fun and colorful prints

Hint Sunscreen: I have tried a lot of sunscreens over the years and Hint sunscreen has been by far my favorite. It is non-greasy, stays on for a long period of time and smells great! They also make the most amazing flavored water that both Jake and I are obsessed with.
