January is the time of year that I purchase both my flower and vegetable seeds. This year I was actually a little late to the seed purchasing party. I was shocked when I purchased seeds last week how many are already sold out! Seeds seem to be sold out earlier and earlier each year. The majority of my seeds that I will be planting this year I have extras from last year. As always I am trying a few new flower and vegetable varieties. I typically purchase specialty varieties that cannot always be found at local retailers which makes it important to purchase early.
Here are my top favorite picks for supplies to purchase seeds from.
Floret Flower: By now many gardeners know about Floret. Floret is a specialty seed farm and is now working on breeding their own varieties! They carry mostly cut flower seeds and some of my favorite varieties come form Floret. Not only do they have beautiful varieties to choose from, they have a ton of great resources and mini courses which is one reason gardeners around the world love Floret! Unfortunately they already held their annual seed sale earlier this month, so most of the seeds are sold out. Sometimes they do restock.
Johnny Seeds: Johnny is my second go to for flower and herb seeds. They also have a wide variety of specialty seeds and carry many of the same as floret. Most varieties are available still, but I am noticing many are backordered.
Harris Seeds: Harris seeds is another one of my favorite seed sellers. They have a wide variety of both flower and vegetable seeds that are difficult to find at local retailers. They also have a wide variety of supplies. I like purchasing my Kraft flower sleeves from them. On a side note, a tip that I discovered last year with these flower sleeves is to cut them in half to double the amount of sleeves you have for small bouquets.
Totally Tomatoes: Totally Tomatoes of course sells tomato seeds but also many other vegetable seeds. Myself and my family are big fans of heirloom tomatoes, and Totally Tomatoes has a wide selection.
P.S. For all of you dahlia lovers out there, many sellers have started their sales or will start in the next month or two!
